Azumanga Daioh Volume 1

I have repeatedly read AD for a few years, as I cannot get enough of the weird antics of these crazy girls!

Join Tomo, Yomi, Sakaki, “Osaka”, Kaorin, Kagura and new student Chiyo to kick start their middle school year! They are 7 strange and random girls with unique strengths. They are together at school, and the AD series is about their crazy adventures

I have read the whole series and so, I will review the other ones in the series. In the first volume, you meet Chiyo, the elementary school girl who is so smart that she is now in Middle school with the others! She quickly becomes one of the group. Tomo is the idiot, Osaka is the dazed, Yomi is the sarcastic, Kaorin is the Sakaki-Fan girl, Kagura is the sports nut, Sakaki is the quiet sporty-smart cat lover and Chiyo is the clever-everything-prodigy. It is set out in small comics of 4 panels, meaning you don’t get bored, and your eyes don’t get tired, as easily. The comics are often very funny, with references to other manga and Japanese customs, which are breifly explained at the end of the book. The colour art on the cover, and on the first few pages is a pleasure to look at, and very well drawn! I hope you will start reading AD Series too!

Kiss of Death by Malcolm Rose

I drifted in and out of KoD, so I did not read every single word… however, I have read 95% so this review is basically full, so yeah…

Kiss of Death is the story of Seth, Kim and Wes. They go on a school trip to Eyam, the ex-plague infested village (back in the Middle Ages that is! xD) of York. While Seth is moved by the amazing story of the plague, Kim and Wes are more interested in the well, and the money at the bottom of it! When Kim and Wes pick out a Middle Aged coin with plague bacteria on it, they discover they picked more than they bargained for.

It was really creepy! I loved reading it, and the beginning and end were the best, the middle was average… I still enjoyed it though! A very bemusing ending, and it kept me entertained and excited throughout all of it! I think that it could be a bit better, but it is good enough to go on my Book Blog!

Negima Volume 1

I have just finished reading Negima Volume one and I thought it was a great manga, defintetely one for the favourites! I loved reading it!

Negi Springfield has just graduated from Magi-School, and his next assignment if he wishes to become a Magister, is to teach English at an all girls boarding school in Japan! Being only 10 years old, the girls coo over him and treat him not as a teacher, but as a puppy, and are non-stop teasing him and cuddling him. Negi accidently messes up Asuna’s (a student there) life so, he tries using magic to make it better. But, amazingly, it fails every time! Negi isn’t allowed to let the girls know about his powers, or he’ll be turned into a hamster by his Magic teacher. After messing Asuna’s life up, when Asuna finds out that Negi is a Magi-In-Training, she could tell everyone and anyone she wanted!

I loved Negima! The art is great, and the story flows well! The translation is very good and doesn’t leave out crucial bits! I think this is one of my favourite mangas, so I bought the anime DVD too! It was very expensive though. I am going to buy Negima volume 2 soon, and will be posting a review when I finish that!

The Lottery (unfinished!) by Beth Goobie

I am still reading The Lottery, and it’s very good, but I haven’t finished it yet… so… yeah. This review is my opinion BEFORE finishing the book.

I am actually enjoying it! It’s really interesting. It’s about this girl that goes to this American High School that is secretly governed by this evil team of students called the Shadow Council. Everyone in the school fears them; they can turn everyone and anyone against you. Once a year, they write the name of every student on some paper, and pick one name out of a coffin. This unfortunate person will be Shadow Council’s slave for a year. None of their friends will speak to them and nobody will even look at them.

Creepy, amirite? And the one girl who this story is about gets picked out of the coffin, and it’s about how she uncovers SC’s secret… or that’s what it says on the blurb. So far I’ve read up to the bit where she is entering the Shadow Council “den”. I think the author, Beth Goobie, is really good at describing what the girl (who I can’t remember the name of xD) is going through, and it makes you feel a bit scared too. I will see if the rest of the book is any good, but the beginning is very entertaining, and I hope the rest is of consistent quality!
